Please remember that this is not about erasing your accent. Speak English with pride wherever you come from because your accent is your culture. It is your identity. What the process involves is practising intonation and stress, discussing all those silent letters which pop out of The Dark Ages in the English language, playing games with diphthongs and creating awareness around the body: Learning a language is not just about memory. It is also a physical skill which involves using vocal muscles you are not used to using in your own language. Depending on your level, you will sometimes need to practise like someone learning to figure skate or to ski until the movement becomes natural. This is known as “proprioception”.
